TUNISIA
The Story
Sometimes, the urge to leave becomes impossible to ignore. So, to escape the stress of everyday life, we set off for Tunisia on our motorcycle. An adventure that began over New Year's 2026 with a ferry crossing from Genoa to Tunis, and ended with our hearts full of unforgettable memories and valuable lessons. Riding side by side, we explored this extraordinary country, immersing ourselves in Berber culture—from ancient cave dwellings carved into the rock to the endless dunes of the Sahara. We visited remarkably preserved Roman archaeological sites, followed historic military tracks, and rode towards the shimmering mirage of water on the horizon.
Deep sand, a heavily loaded motorcycle, two riders, and the sun setting over the desert tell only part of a journey lived on the fine line between adventure and recklessness.
The Route
From the port of Tunis, we began our journey south, stopping in Sousse, El Jem, and Sfax before reaching Tataouine and the ancient village of Chenini, where we spent the night in a fascinating traditional cave dwelling. From Ksar Ghilane, we attempted to cross the desert towards Douz, experiencing one of the most intense and demanding moments of the entire expedition. The following day, we explored the vast Chott el Jérid salt lake and the iconic Star Wars filming locations before riding along part of the historic Rommel Track. Our journey then continued to the remarkably preserved Roman city of Sbeitla and the majestic Great Mosque of Kairouan. Finally, we enjoyed one last stroll through the narrow streets of Sousse, picking up a few souvenirs before boarding the ferry from Tunis back to Genoa.
